Do It Right
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." (Colossians 3: 17)
"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3: 23, 24)
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." (I Corinthians 10: 31)
The above verses give men, especially Christians, their charter, warrant, and operating manual for living and doing. These verses, if kept fully and always in mind, as mottos and rules for conduct, will bless one's life and keep one from many ills.
These verses tell us both why and how to do things. They provide reason and motive for living and doing. All is to be done "to the glory of God." We are not to be seekers first of our own glory. God is to be first and foremost in our praise, thanksgiving, and in all our contemplations of things. When we do things this way, and with this intention in heart, with this frame of mind, then all we do will be pleasing to the Lord and he will surely bless us.
When we do good to others, we should realize that we are also doing good to the Lord Jesus. "Forasmuch as you have done it unto these...you have done so unto me." (Matthew 25: 40)
The Lord recognizes such deeds, done in his name, for his glory and the glory of God, and from a thankful and gracious heart. He promises good to such people.
"Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free." (Ephesians 6:8)
If we praise and brag on the Lord, then we will find him praising us. If we do good to others, then he will do good to us. When we do things "to the Lord," and "for his glory," then we are truly acting in faith. And, in faith we must live and do, or it is not acceptable nor pleasing to the Lord.
"...for whatsoever is not of faith is sin." (Romans 14:23)
It has been said that when we open our hands to give and to help others, then our hands, being opened, are in a position also to receive. This is so true!
Friend, are you living for yourself, for your own glory and praise, or are you living and doing all to the glory of your God and Creator? Have you made yourself god, an idol and object of worship, instead of the one true God?
