Trusting in the Lord

There are numerous verses in the Old Testament, particularly in the Psalms and Proverbs, where men and women are exhorted and called upon to place their trust and confidence in the Lord and in him alone. Notice these verses.

"Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD." (Psalm 4:5)

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." (Psalm 28:7)

The above verses not only speak of the act of trusting, something all ought to do, but also gives good reason for all to do so. God is trustworthy, being omnipotent, omnibenevolent, and unchangeable. We may therefore safely place full trust in him.

Any who do not fully trust him have not come to full faith in his mercy, goodness, kindness, love, good will, almightiness, and general care of us.

"Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about." (Psalm 32:10)

"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." (Psalm 34:8)

"The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate." (Psalm 34:22)

These verses assure us of the Lord's care of his people and promise, absolutely, that those who put faith, trust, and confidence in the Lord will be blessed, measurably more in this life, and supernally in the life to come.

"Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:5)

"O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee." (Psalm 84:12)

These verses assure us that God will hear the prayers of those who trust in him, as opposed to those who do not trust him, but doubt him.

"He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD." (Psalm 112:7)

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)

"The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe." (Proverbs 29:25)

These verses speak of the effect of such placing of trust in the Lord. Such a person is safe from all harm and fear.

Sinner, how safe are you? In what are you trusting for salvation? Is it worth trusting?
