Send Me!

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." (Isaiah 6:8)

Isaiah was a volunteer. When he heard the words of enlistment, he was ready to go. He heard the call of God and he answered it. "Here I am!" "Send me!"

The word "gospel" contains the word "go," and if you take the "go" out of "gospel" you are left with a "spell." A professing Christian who has no desire to "go" or to be "sent" by the Lord is probably under some bewitching spell. Christians have a mission to accomplish and have therefore received commission from the Lord.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me." (John 13:20)

"As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world." (John 17:18)

"Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." (John 20:21)

"And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles." (Acts 22:21)

"Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes..." (Matthew 23: 34)

"Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves." (Luke 10:3)

These verses emphasize the mission of the church and ministry. Christians are sent forth to bear the message of the gospel, to bear witness to Christ and to his teachings.

Those who receive the ambassadors of Christ, the messengers of the gospel, receive Christ. Those who reject the message and the messengers reject the one who sent them.

It is no light matter to bear the heavenly news, to report the gospel, to echo the glad tidings. It is serious work. People are dying who need to hear this message, this life saving news. Will you join in the effort to spread the glorious news throughout the land? The saving message! "Oh how I love to proclaim it!"

It would not be employment any would want if it were nothing but bad news that needed to be reported. Thank God that he sends us forth to bear good news! The best of news!

"As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country." (Proverbs 25: 25)

There are so many hungry and thirsty souls in the world, desirous of hearing some good news, news that will delight the soul. The message of the gospel of Christ is such a message! It will refresh the thirsty soul!

Those who have received the good news, and who have been transformed by it, have an intense desire to see others receive and experience the same. So too the apostles and first disciples, when they had found the Christ, had received the good news, they immediately went out to tell others, saying "we have found him! Come and see him!" So too the woman at the well, who found that "living water," the "Messiah." She left her waterpots at Jacob's well and went into the city and said, "come see a man, the Messiah!"

Dear Christian, are you crying out to God to send you, to use you? If not, then are you sure you have received and understood how good and cheering is the message of the gospel?

Dear sinner, are you looking for some good news? I point you to the Lord, the one who died upon the cross for sins, to the great Savior of sinners. He stands ready to save you and lovingly invites you to come to him now for freedom from your guilt and shame. He promises you a new life, full of joy and peace. Is that not good news? Will you receive Christ today?
