Spiritual Longing
"For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness." (Psalm 107: 9 KJV)
A spiritual man, a child of God, is one who is a "longing soul." He has his yearnings, hopes, dreams, and expectations.
"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is." (Psalm 63: 1 KJV)
Such a soul longs for God himself, to see him and to have eternal fellowship and life with him.
"How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God." (Psalm 84: 1, 2 KJV)
"My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times...Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness...I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments...I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight." (Psalm 119: 20, 40, 131, 174 KJV)
The spiritual soul longs for God, his word of truth, and for the dwellingplace of God.
"For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1: 8 KJV)
"For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick." (Philippians 2: 26 KJV)
"Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved." (Philippians 4: 1 KJV)
The spiritual soul longs for the fellowship of the family of God, to have the full enjoyment of the house of God. He is given the promise that he will have his desires, and the thing he longs after, for God "satisfies the longing soul."
